State gives $17M in energy grants to Wash. schools

OLYMPIA, WASH.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire says energy grants going to 29 public schools and colleges will save energy and create an estimated 600 jobs.

The grants from the state Department of Commerce will total $17 million and help pay for lighting and heating upgrades, new electrical and hot water systems, and air conditioning improvements.

Another $26 million for the projects is coming from local money, private dollars, debt financing, stimulus dollars from the federal government and incentives from local utilities.

Grant funding used for ‘green’ upgrades in Westland

Time is money.

In Westland, officials aren’t letting any time go by before putting federal money to work to help reduce energy costs at three municipal buildings.

This spring, the city was awarded $731,000 from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the federal government. The funds were part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, explained Westland Mayor Bill Wild.

NCAA Awards Women’s Basketball Team Grant Program Funding

INDIANAPOLIS—The NCAA is awarding women’s basketball grants to 12 Division I schools and two conferences as part of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Grant Program to increase awareness, exposure and attendance of women’s basketball.

A total of 88 member schools and conferences submitted proposals in the third year of the pilot program.

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) announces the availability of grant funds through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Project Stream.

PPA is a regionalized funding program of the PCA. A total of 16 local organizations administer PPA and serve all 67 counties in Pennsylvania by re-granting funds to support a wide variety of local and community arts activities.

The Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance (PRAA) is the PPA partner organization in this region, serving the counties of Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset and Westmoreland.

Centralia, PA to Seek Over $100,000 in Energy Saving Grants

The Centralia City Council is hoping to secure over 100-thousand dollars in grant funding for improvements to lighting, heating and air conditioning systems, windows, overhead doors and external doors at City Hall. City of Chillicothe seeks grant funding for removing dilapidated houses

The city of Chillicothe is seeking grant funds to help remove vacant and dilapidated houses and commercial structures within the city.

A public hearing is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at City Hall to discuss the city’s submission of an application for the 2010 Community Development Block Grant program. The purpose of the grant is to help remove the slum and blighted conditions of the town.

Chillicothe City Council members on Monday night passed an ordinance regarding housing fees for the proposed demolition grant.

The grant is for up to $125,000 and, if approved, would provide funds for the demolition of between 30 and 40 houses, according to City Engineer Ron Urton. The application is being made through Green Hills Regional Planning Commission. Read More



City of Mckinney announces new block grant funding

McKinney Courier-GazettThe Community Grants Advisory Commission, a volunteer group of seven citizens appointed by the City of McKinney, will hold public hearings and make funding recommendations to City Council under the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). McKinney expects to receive an allocation of $597,046 under this entitlement grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant year will begin Oct. 1.
Applications for grant funds must be received by the CDBG office at 314 S. Chestnut St. in McKinney no later than Friday, April 30, at 4 p.m. The application and instructions may be downloaded from the City’s website,www.mckinneytexas.org. Read More
